My "Golden Birthday" is approaching and I could not be more excited. What is a Golden Birthday, you ask? Great question-I had no clue either until very recently when I told Hannah's 9-year-old niece that I was turning 28 on May 28th and she nearly keeled over with excitement. "THIS IS YOUR GOLDEN BIRTHDAY SHANE," she yelled with glee.⁣ ⁣ Based on her reaction alone, this is a highly momentous occasion that warrants extreme levels of fanfare.⁣ ⁣ To celebrate, I'm asking each and every one of you to send me 28 cans of GOLDEN, delicious beer... just kidding. While I would love that, I don't think my tiny beer fridge could handle the surge. Hannah might also leave me when I tell her we need to find space for 300 cases of beer.⁣ ⁣ However, I would like to use my big, special, important Golden Birthday to do some good in the world. As you know, I co-manage a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. Our mission is twofold: we provide free disability awareness seminars for thousands of students across the country each year, helping schools foster more inclusive and empathetic environments. Second, we support the disability community with grants and item donations. We've provided over $250,000 in adaptive and medical equipment in the last few years!⁣ ⁣ For my Golden Birthday, I've created a special Golden Fundraiser, with a goal of raising $2,800 in honor of what might be the most important day in my life-May 28th.⁣ ⁣ Every dollar donated on this fundraiser helps us achieve that mission above, allowing us to provide our services to more people in bigger and better ways. Hannah akkor ismerte meg őt, amikor látta Rainn Wilson amerikai színész róla készített kisfilmjét a YouTube-on. Ebben a színész Shane mindennapjait mutatta be, hogy mások is láthassák, milyen inspiráló az, ahogy a férfi él a betegsége ellenére.

A lánynak nagyon szimpatikus lett az akkor 20 éves fiú. Írt egy e-mailt neki, amiben megdicsérte többek közt a humorát és az írásait. Egy idő után üzengetni kezdtek egymásnak, a beszélgetések során pedig egymásba szerettek.
